WHAT INSPIRED ME TO PICK UP A PAINTBRUSH
I took this picture from our family's front yard when we moved to Utah and built a little ranch in 2001; pictured is our Border Collie Bandit. I was 10 and had recently moved 1,900 miles from the familiarity of small Hampton, Georgia. These new expansive mountains, canyons, and desert landscapes were so different and I was excited to explore. So to embrace change, I started hiking and drawing. Our family drove to popular Southwest locales and National Parks during summer vacations. I didn't know at the time it would lead to a fascination with the beauty of the American West and 17 years of painting.
